ABSTRACT
Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery(FESS) is an accepted and frequently practised technique in the ENT department.
Producing good local anesthesia of the intranasal cavity has always been a difficult problem facing rhinologists. Previously used methods are mentioned and the use of a new EMLA (eutectic mixture of local anesthesia) for FESS in adults and older children is described.
This study was designed to assess the effectiveness of this new product by comparing it anesthetic effect with that of local infiltration anesthesia. This study showed EMLA to be a very effective, safe and convenient preparation for rhinological use.
