요약

최근 흉터에 대해서 환자들의 요구가 다양해지고 민감하게 반응하고 있어 외과 의사들에게는 과거에 비해 여간 고민거리가 아닐 수 없다. 새로운 수술들은 대개 흉터가 적게 남도록 하거나 노출 부위를 피해 절개를 함으로써 이러한 환자들의 요구에 부응하고자 하지만, 많은 수술들은 어쩔 수 없이 노출부위에 절개를 가할 수밖에 없다. 환자들은 수술 절개 부위에 흉터가 심하게 남을수록 근본적인 수술 결과가 좋다고 하더라도 불만이 생기게 되므로, 외과 의사들은 가급적 흉터 또한 적게 남도록 해야만 한다.
