ABSTRACT

Schwannoma is a benign tumor which arises from nerve sheath of peripheral, sympathetic, and cranial nerves except optic and olfactory nerves. These tumors most often occur in the head and neck, principally involving the acoustic nerve. But there have been few cases reporting about the tumor developed in the nose and paranasal sinuses, and very rare in nasal septum. In nose and paranasal sinuses, nasal - ethmoid and maxillary sinus are most commonly involved, but rare cases were reported occurring from the nasal septum. Recently, we experienced an uncommon and interesting case of schwannoma arising from the nasal septum. The mass was based on right side of nasal septum and displacing middle turbinate and septum to laterally and left side, respetively. The tumor was excised completely and verified histopathologically as schwannoma. (J Clinical Otolaryngol 2000;11:144-147)
