ABSTRACT
An arteriovenous fistula consists of an endothelial lined communication between artery and vein without interposed capillary bed. Tinnitus related vascular abnormalities is usually a soft, rushing and pulsatile sound which is synchronous with the heartbeat. Congenital interconnections between the occipital artery and the transverse sinus, internal carotid artery and the vertebral vessels, or the middle meningeal artery and the greater superficial petrosal sinus have been reported. Superficial temporal artery fistula causes tinnitus rarely. We experienced a case of spontaneous arteriovenous fistula of superficial temporal artery causing pulsatile tinnitus which was treated with surgical excision after preoperative embolization with coils. So we report the case with review of literatures. (J Clinical Otolaryngol 2000;11:129–132)
